How to Choose a Dog Bed
The most important part of choosing a dog bed is finding the right size. The ideal bed will allow your dog to stretch out completely without touching the floor. Measuring your dog from nose to tail will give you an idea of how big his or her bed needs to be.
Once you have the right size, you’ll have to choose a type. There are plenty to pick from, and the key is to find the right one for your dog. For smaller dogs, snuggle beds are a good pick. Soft walls around a flat bed help your smaller dog stay warm.
Pillow beds are great for small- to medium-sized dogs and are extremely comfortable, molding a bit to the shape of your dog. You can find pillow beds for larger dogs, as well, but you might have to look a little harder or have them custom-made.
Flat, soft beds are the way to go for larger dogs, and are often smaller, softer, lined versions of the type of mattress you might sleep on. The lining will help your big dog stay warm and comfortable while the size will accommodate them, allowing them to stretch out comfortably.
A little note for your convenience and your dog’s comfort: find a dog bed with a removable cover for washing, or buy a cover for it. Trying to wash a dog bed by hand is a chore neither one of you will enjoy!
